When BP’s pet gusher first started turning the Gulf of Mexico black, BP’s initial estimate was that it was leaking on the order of 1,000 barrels a day. The latest government estimates suggest that it may be a bit higher than that: somewhere between 35,000 and 60,000 barrels a day.

If all BP’s calculations are this accurate, it’s no wonder that their oil rigs get into trouble.
